how can I use my iPhone for international and local calling once I am in India?
I'm traveling to India (from USA) in 2 weeks, and will be staying for approximately 3 months. I have an iPhone, with a Verizon plan. I would like to make my phone serviceable in India, for both international and local calling - at affordable rates. Thanks for any advice.

Get a local SIM card, they're cheap and calls back home are cheap too. You'll get a different number so make sure everyone knows what it is, but it'll be hundreds of times less expensive than global roaming.
India has a very mature cell phone network and the competition means prices are very low. You can get SIM cards just about anywhere! almost 8 years ago -

You need to jailbreak and unlock the iPhone. You can find instructions on web how to jailbreak and unlock but I couldn't find info on how to unlock for iPhone4. almost 8 years ago
