    As for best places to stay, as everyone else kind of said, it really depends on what you want to see or do. If you like the hills and the cooler air then go to munnar but if you like the beach then it's kovalam. If your staying in Cochin, I would say that the taj is decent (marine view drive) and that the ramada is VERY nice but I'm not sure how much a night it is. Theres also the le meridian which is good also. These are all a bit more than three stars though. As for three star hotels, I don't know of a particular one but they will very likely be ok, just be flexible. A great place to get some insight would be something like trip advisor.
