Adrienne, I think travelling anywhere with designer luggage is asking for trouble. It screams "I'm rich, please rob me!".
The number one rule for travelling safely (and avoiding crime) is to blend in. If you wear flashy jewellery, or carry a $5000 camera around your neck or travel with designer luggage you make yourself stand out from the crowd and set yourself up as a target. This is true of anywhere in the world, but the problem is exacerbated in India because of the extreme poverty. Your $3250 LV rolling suitcase, even if the thief got 10% of its value would pocket $325, which is not bad when the average per capita ANNUAL income is $830 (and many millions earn a lot less than that!).
Take something sturdy and utilitarian and leave your worries at home in the cupboard with your designer luggage.

I suggest you sell your design luggage and help feed some of the miserable people you will find when you arrive in India. I'm sure you'll be able to feed some hundreds, and it's a fantastic way of avoiding it to be stollen! about 9 years ago
