Does Iceland have thin air and does it cause breathlessness? My daughter is asthmatic and we were planning on visiting this summer.
Gita, what do you mean by 'thin air'? Unlike some countries which are wholly within mountainous regions and are far enough above sea level to have 'thin air', Iceland's highest point is only 2100 metres above sea level. Most of the towns are coastal. For centuries the main industry has been fishing, so it's not heavily industrialised, and it's known for its clean air - except when there's a lot of volcanic ash raining down.
From what I can see, Iceland has asthma rates comparable to other Scandinavian countries, but talk to your doctor about an asthma management plan before you leave. over 8 years ago
