    We rented a car and drove to the Fjordland, staying at guesthouses. I would recommend a 4 wheel drive. We did not have that wich we regretted a couple of times. I would not drive a RV on the roads in that area. about 9 years ago

    We had a small car and took a tent... certainly recommend the RV instead of tent as you can stay in some "camping parks" with only very basic facilities and helps on those days of bad weather. But as it was said above there are many regions on the country that you need a car with good suspension and good tires and be ready for some bumpy roads... it's not always the nicest thing and doesn't necessarily mean it's in the central area of the country (the roads on the east coast were not fantastic...maybe it changed). about 9 years ago
