Is it expensive?
I've always known Iceland as a very expensive country to visit. But with all the economic crisis and stuff going on lately i thought that maybe the prices could be decreasing.

Well last I hear their kronor had lost about 20% of its value and falling. So that'd have to make things a bit cheaper, though im not sure but very interested in finding out!!! Also right now would be a very interesting time to visit, with the government change, and the demonstrations and so on. almost 12 years ago

I was there the end of March 2011. I stayed in a clean and central hotel for $75/night, rented a car for $55/day plus insurance and less than $15/night for good dinners. I considered it down right inexpensive if you are careful and do your research. Yes, the economy has been damaged quite a bit. So it is a great time to visit plus you will be spending greatly needed dollars. Have fun and do good deeds. What a deal.
A friend who spent 5 days there last year was stunned when I told him what I paid. Costs for tourist amenities such as hotel, car & food have fallen considerably.
I found the interior landscape to be much more interesting than the coast or Reykjavik. Don't miss the blue Lagoon; it remains expensive ($45) but quite a unique experience. The interior landscape is surreal. Avoid guided tours if you are cost conscious.
Be prepared for occasional heavy winds. The temperature is usually relatively mild compared to the name ICE-land, but it can change quickly and sharply. I used layering having gone through my closets to chose clothes that I didn't care about. My next stop was sunny Spain so I simply left a fair amount of clothes behind. I saw other visitors do the same; apparently it is a common practice. No need to be fashion conscious.
Icelanders that I met were well educated (30% have gone to college) and with a sense of humor -- they call their locally brewed vodka Reykja ( Wreck ya -- get it?). It is actually quite good. over 9 years agoAnswered by Tim Bradbury viaAsk a Nomad iPad app

Overall, more expensive than countries like the US, but you can still get things for not too much if you know the right places. over 9 years ago

Yes. And supposedly the cost of a trip rises about 20% every year. In sept 2016 I was shocked that a French onion soup was $18 Canadian. about 4 years ago
