The best things to see during a short 2 day stay in Budapest would be along the Danube. The Big Market at the Pest end of the Liberty Bridge, offers a wide variety of foods to try, and souvenirs to buy. http://tinyurl.com/3vnkeqw
Walk the Vaci Street, and check out the sites along there. While you are there, eat Paprikas Chicken with cucumber salad, and stop by the Yeg Buffet or the Szamos Cukraszda after to grab a slice of cake. http://tinyurl.com/3cqf8d6
The Buda Castle has amazing views of the parliament http://tinyurl.com/ckssjfm
The Danube River winding through the city can been seen best from the stunning Castle on the Buda hill. http://tinyurl.com/6u5ftha
And the Synagogue http://tinyurl.com/69vh9fg which deeply moved me is located in Pest, close to the walking streets.
Then there is also Saint Stephens Church, worth the walk to have a coffee in the giant square, and people watch if you have time.
The City Park, if the weather is nice, is a great location when travelling with kids. The circus, the zoo, and outdoor skating in the winter. If you get a chance to soak in the baths in the city park, do it. 2 days may be cutting it tight, but well worth the few hours to soak in the healing waters. http://tinyurl.com/439rjyk
