We have a 5/6 hour stop over in HK airport and would really like to get out of the airport to do some last minute souvenir shopping (we visited HK on the way out to OZ but left 'shopping' for our return leg, however now we only have 5 hours!) and escape the airport!

What i would like to know is:
Is there anywhere close-ish to the airport (within a 4.5h circuit - get there, shop, get back) we can get souvenirs after 7.00pm?
I realise you can buy things at the airport but it was more to get out and about as well and i didn't think there would be much on offer at the airport??) I am a primary school teacher and would like to take home a nice chinese tea set, chop sticks etc for a chinese display and i did really want them to actually come from China/HK! I am aware of the night markets but wasn't sure if that would be too hectic running around trying to find a tea set and whether we had enough time?

Also, do you think we could make it to watch the light show in that time too/ or instead of shopping?

And if not, do you have any recommendations of what we should do during our stopover?

Thanks in advance

It takes about 30 minutes on the express train to get to Kowloon. What you need can be found in a Chinese emporium or at Temple Street.

Assuming you know Hong Kong very well, you should be able to shop, have a light snack and return to the airport for your onward journey. over 7 years ago

There is a shop in terminal 2 of HKIA that sells good and authentic tea sets. No need to go into town for that. Also, with 5 hours, you won't have much time to travel around town. It takes about 20 mins to go through immigration these days. With traveling time on airport express of about 30 mins each way, you'd be rushing around.

Go to terminal 2 (outside transit area) and do some shopping around first. If you still need to do more shopping thereafter, take bus no. 1 to Tung Chung to check out the outlet mall and get a meal.

Alternatively, you can take the airport express to Tsingyi which has a huge mall above the station. It is about 10 mins from airport. over 7 years ago
