I highly doubt there is any such fee mate. If you're using your own camera, i'd say Go ahead and shoot. almost 6 years ago

I was on the Acropolis 10 years ago. You could photograph freely without asking. Since then they've built the new museum. Like all museums, the museum probably has restrictions on inside photography. almost 6 years ago

Thanks for the quick response guys, I just heard that if you are packing a tripod you are suddenly in a different category and need to pay a fee. Did any of you guys use a tripod? almost 6 years ago

You should think carefully about whether you need a tripod: if you do, law demands a permit because it is assumed that you have a commercial purpose (the same applies to flash in museums, though NB some museums, as the acropolis museum, prohibit all photography). Given the current 8am-8pm daylight hours on the acropolis you can probably take what you need without. But this is taken seriously - there is a long law on the use of cultural imagery and the guards will be within their rights to ask you to leave if you have no permit. If you think a tripod essential, get in touch with your local Greek embassy for advice on how to apply if your purpose is commercial, or with your national archaeological school in Athens if it is cultural. You should allow a couple of months for this to come though - so if you can survive without a tripod, you should. almost 6 years ago
