Is it safe to travel in Greece 2012

almost 9 years ago about Greece

I have heard news that Greece is having a civil war and i was in the middle of planning a trip there (July 2012). I was wondering if it is dangerous to go to Greece. Should i stop planning?

We were in Athens and Santorini last September. It was very safe. Athens went on on strike again during that time, which complicated our trip back to the airport. But it was rather inconvenience than danger. almost 9 years ago

Greece is one of the safest and most beautiful places to go. The thing that they have economic crisis issues doesnt mean they have a civil war, that's misinformation! almost 9 years ago

Amanda, the other Nomads are right... there's no civil war. There are, however, occasional large street protests, and they sometimes descend into conflict with police. These protests are usually centred on Syntagma Square in the centre of Athens. (I've created this Google map to show the location: http://g.co/maps/fr5vu ).
The protests and strikes are usually well advertised beforehand. Just be aware that depending on who's striking there may be disruption to public transport (taxis, buses or ferries) or certain historical monuments may be closed to the public.... not dangerous, but certainly inconvenient.
If you're on the islands you'll probably not notice anything at all. Enjoy almost 9 years ago

Most certainly there is no such a thing as a civil war going on in Greece (!!) hahahah
Greece is very safe for travelling, Athens is very safe, but as all large cities you need to be aware for pick-pocketing etc. Food is clean, descent, safe, you will have a wonderful time. almost 9 years ago
