Traveling Saxony Germany

over 6 years ago about Saxony, Germany

My husband and I will be in Dresden for 2 days. One of those days we would like to travel to see Bastei Bridge and any other really beautiful locations. We will need to travel by public transportation. We are healthy and like walking but don't want to go on difficult hikes. What would you recommend we go see and how? Also, Is a boat cruise on the Elbe River worth it?

My wife, daughter and I took a paddlewheel steamship (Stadt Wehlen) from Dresden to Bad Rathen (just below the Bastei), and were enchanted by the leisurely place and romantic views. (Monday was 20% off). We did not have enough time to walk up to the Bastei, but chose to cross the Elbe on a small ferry to Oberrathen and walk along the Elbe bike path. Then we took a regional train back to Dresden. We spent two days in Dresden and found it utterly delightful, we wished we had at least one more day to see and do all that it had to offer. The Frauenkirche is a beautiful church with a truly wonderful story of its bombing, laying in ruins for 47+ years and being rebuilt in historically accurate form. Also the Kreuzkirche has a great story and free organ concerts. A personal favorite: please take time to have lunch at the rooftop restaurant at Yenidze, which was a cigarette factory built over 100 yrs. ago in an incredibly ornate Turkish style. Great views and one-of-a-kind atmosphere. over 6 years ago
