How much does train travel cost from Hamburg to Munich (preferably ICE)? Travelling in August. Is it convenient when travelling with family?
Plan to fly to Hamburg, take a train to Munich for flight out.
Taking the ICE would be reasonably expensive from Hamburg to Munich. Around 100 – 130 EUR per person. However, if you don’t mind taking the regional trains (Non ICE) then you could buy the ‘Quer-durchs-Land-Ticket’ which is advertised on the main German rail website www.bahn.de. It would take approx. 10 hours rather than the 6 hours on the ICE, but you can buy the ticket for 1 person for just 44 EUR or add extra passengers for 6 EUR each. Taking up to 5 people total. So for 5 people it would cost 68 EUR. With this ticket you can travel anywhere in Germany on one day and also use the local public transport everywhere you go. On a weekday you must travel after 9am but on the weekend your day can start at 00:00. The exact information is here:
Alternatively you could car pool. Germany has a website called www.mitfahrgelegenheit.de where people who are traveling places can advertise spare seats in their car and say how much money they want. The website is all in German though. almost 6 years agoAnswered by Vincent via WorldNomads.com
