Cash or credit cards?
From prior posts it looks as tho many shops accept credit cards, but cash is best. Do they take American dollars or should we get Euros or Francs? If so where could we do this? Thanks!

The local currency is the French Pacific Franc. There are plenty of ATMs so just withdraw some local currency. Lots of businesses accept US dollars but pay a poor rate of exchange.

Hi Ali,
I've been to French Polynesia for 7 weeks this spring, and the money you bring really depends on what you do.
If you stay most of the time in resorts, cards are all you need. Even for tours booked through your hotel, you'll be able to pay by card.
As soon as you head out of the safe-haven resorts, you'll need cash. And here it's best to have the local currency, francs, which are easy to get at the local ATMs.
If you haven't decided yet which islands you want to visit, have a look at an overview of the ten we visited during our French Polynesia trip: www.travelintense.com/eco-travel-destinations/french-polynesia
