Going to go on holidays next year with a friend and her 5 year old - would bora bora be OK or should we look at Fiji instead? Don't want anything too flash just something kid-friendly and cocktails on the beach friendly. No dangerous (non-child-friendly) huts etc.

The great irony is that the culture of Tahiti is so child oriented while the hotels are not and neither are many of the travellers who go there apparently, as Bora Bora is traditionally a honeymoon destination.

There are few "kids clubs" in French Polynesia but plenty of activities water wise to keep your children happy, although you'd have to be pretty careful / watchful with a 5 year old.

Personally, I've travelled to many places with my children from a very young age and believe any and all travel is a fantastic life learning experience. about 10 years ago

If you only take one child with you, that kid will be very bored, very fast. There will be no other kids there hardly at all. Same with Fiji. Take the kid to the Bahamas, you will get what you are looking for. Lots of other kids to interact with, cheaper than S. Pacific, and for you...cocktails on the beach. Take the kid to Bora Bora when he/she is in high school and can invite a friend along. about 9 years ago
