    Hi Mick
We bought a place in the south of france about three years ago and its been fantastic. Its on the mediterrannean and the village is called Collioure. I would recommend it to anyone. Sensational. Prices there are now quite expensive however there are lots of great villages about 10 mns inland such as sorede, laroque etc that are cheaper but you are still close to everything - 10 mins to coast, 20 mins to spanish border, 2 hours to barcelona, 2 hours north to toulouse or pont du gard bridge, arles or avignon and 2 hours in winter to pyrenees for skiing. For us it has the lot.
you can see our village via our site at www.collioure.com.au
there is a great english speaking real estate agent in the village - agence paradise in the firm and he knows a lot about the area and places.
    hope this info helps.
