We're heading to Paris next month and it appears that the situation there is getting worse. The state department has now issued a travel advisory for all of Europe. Is it all hype or what?

    Yes!! It is mostly hype!

The media needs viewership (high rates). So the best way to get them is by scaring its public, so they keep watching TV and reading news on the internet (sorry, the public just like to watch bad news, psychology 101). Plus, remember who runs the state department now: Trump presidency! So yes, they have very little concern with reality. It's great for them to say that Europe is falling apart because it received refugees.

Plus, by probability, you have more chances of being hit by a lightening than being a victim of at terrorist attack.

Finally, to put things in perspective, this is from the Australian Department of Foreign Affair (travel advisory): "Terrorism is a threat throughout the world. We assess there is currently a heightened threat of terrorist attack in the United States caused by those motivated by extremists involved in the conflict in Syria and Iraq."

And: "The United States has more violent crime than Australia, although it rarely involves tourists. Mass shootings continue to occur in public places."
