We rented an apartment and then used the Metro to get everywhere. The system is very good. You can buy a pass for various periods of time. You can also take the Metro to the train to go to outlying areas. If you want to orient yourself, go for the hop-on hop-off bus. Good Luck. over 5 years ago

On foot! Paris is a great city for walking and not too big (as far as 'big cities' go). Like Pat says above, the Metro is great to get around, or especially to head back to your apartment after walking the streets all day. Take sensible shoes - there's a lot of cobblestone streets. over 5 years ago

Agree with both answers. We walked everywhere unless we needed to get there fast. You see so much more by walking and find GREAT unexpected places you wouldn't even know about otherwise! Just have fun and roam! over 5 years ago

the metro is great and very easy to use but there are some city buses that go by the major tourist areas. Also don't forget to take a boat down the Seine. Catch a Bateaux docked by the Eiffel Tower. Rick Steves guide books and/or apps are a great help.
Have fun - It is a great city!! over 5 years ago

Depending how young and/or fit you are the Velib bike system Is great. We bike all around Paris every year and we love the freedom and flexibility. Like walking but faster and you can go further and can wander off the beaten track a little (ie take the back streets, divert to that lovely cemetery etc). over 5 years ago
