What would be "off the beaten track" special places in Paris to spend time with my wife for her 40th birthday ?
I would like to identify special attractions in Paris, which are different. We have been in paris dozens of times and have seen the major attractions and then some. I am looking for the "hidden paris". It could be related to art, special sight seeing, food, architecture, short courses... Thanks !
I was in Paris for five days with my daughter and we mainly walked and talked. When we got tired, we found a coffee shop and sat and talked. The best walk was when we started near the Eiffel Tower and made our way along the Seine towards the Notre Dame and St Michel and onwards until we finally caught a Metro at the Tuillerie Gardens.
We were staying with friends in Nanterre Ville. We walked quite a bit around there as well. You can walk along the Seine and see it lined by trees and with kids riding their bikes along it. Nanterre Ville is an interesting suburb: quite poor in many ways but because it has a big office complex in one corner, the local council gets taxes to use for keeping the suburb presentable. For food - we had crepes in St Michel. over 10 years ago
Check out http://www.travel-wonders.com/2009/01/top-ten-hidden-travel-wonders-of-paris.html for some suggestions. If you like art, the Marmottan Museum out near the Bois de Boulagne has an exceptional collection of Monets and is not well known at all. over 10 years ago
here are some suggestions:
Flea Market at St Ouen
Cimetery of Pere lachaise (very beautiful and lots of celebrities buried there: James Morrisson..)
