I want to travel overnight in April from Paris to Madrid with my 2 teenage sons. How should I buy my tickets? I've seen advice from people advising not to buy from RailEurope if you're from the U.S., which I am. Would it be less expensive to take the TGV to the border and then take Spain's public transportation to Madrid?

I was in Spain last September and the high-speed trains in Spain are fabulous! You can either go via Barcelona or there's a route I saw on the renfe website: Trenhotel Francisco de Goya (Madrid Chamartín to Paris Austerlitz). You can buy tickets directly on Renfe's site. almost 9 years ago

Train is really the best way to travel around Europe! Buy directly from the TGV site! Way cheaper! almost 9 years ago

Oh, and you don't need to change trains at the border! It's not much of a difference (might even be more expensive!) and the hassle is not worth it, for sure! almost 9 years ago
