The children and 10yrs and 16yrs and are well seasoned adventure travellers.
Have the islands been effected by the floods this year, what has been the impact? And is Sept/Oct an ok time for them to do this?
I'm not familiar with the location of Kavalu Islands, can you be more specific please.
generally though the floods from earlier this year are not a concern for visitors. sadly, flooding is a regular occurrence in Fiji in the rainy season. This is often disastrous for local residents, but rarely more than an inconvenience for visitors, The resorts are well practised at getting cleaned up and back to normal quickly.
The coastal waters around Fiji are fairly benign, but of course the ocean is unpredictable, so check local conditions.
Check your travel insurance policy, most cover coastal sea kayaking (ours certainly do) but if you're thinking about crossing open ocean out of sight of any land you'd better check.
Cyclone season is November to April but tropical storms can happen outside these times, check the forecast.
It makes good sense to carry appropriate safety equipment with you, even if it's a short coastal trip: life jackets, sunscreen, water (it's very humid), but you probably already know all this because you're seasoned adventurers.
It's not the kind of place where there are rescue services on patrol everywhere, so if you're planning a longer trip leave an itinerary (SARwatch) with someone on land and don't forget to tell them when you've returned. over 7 years ago
I"m starting to get a little nervous about this adventure after running into a local Fijian man at our coffee shop.
There are numerous customs of the islands and I cant find much information about them.
Does anyone know about what the customs are? The "to dos" and the "not to dos".... about 7 years ago
