Where is the best place to stay for a family? We'd prefer not to stay in big four star plus tourist hotels...
Boutique or family run places are preferred

Boutique hotels in Cairo are quite expensive, but in other destinations are affordable.
One of the hotels in Cairo Pyramisa provides apartments for families. about 11 years ago -
We stayed in the Talisman Hotel in Cairo (http://www.talisman-hotel.com/) which is apparently as close as Cairo comes to a boutique hotel. It was clean and quiet (for Cairo) and in a good location.
Service was OK, not a patch on service in Bali, but probably as good as it gets (for the price) in Egypt. about 11 years ago -
OMG!
Hotels in Cairo is very bad..so you better take a five star hotel instead of a four stars hotel
This is my advise..!! over 9 years ago -
Family run hotels are not usually "the go" in Egypt, the closest you'll probably find are smaller 3 star hotels runs by expats, often a couple. We recommend the Havana, the Talisman or the Longchamps are also considered quite good. The Windsor is also reasonably priced - think shabby grandeur :-) over 9 years ago
