We stayed at the Cairo Moon Hotel, and were satisfied with it. It might not look too promising from the outside, but the rooms aren't bad, and the staff are really helpful. It's in a good central location. We also had a good experience in meeting other travelers there. over 9 years ago

I wouldn't suggest staying near the pyramids, they're easy enough to get to. We stayed in the Talisman Hotel which was central and pretty good. over 9 years ago

The Hilton in Cairo is an older hotel, but the rooms are competitively priced. I agree with Simon and would not stay near the pyramids. Its so easy to get to and Cairo itself has to be explored.

I liked the Garden City area myself - we stayed at a luxury hotel there though so that doesnt fit your bill.

We like to recommend the Havana Hotel in Mohandaseen, very good pricing. Many of the hostels and cheaper hotels are located in the heart of Downtown, often looking over Tahrir and you may or may not like to be there. The Ramsses Hilton is older now but has lovely big rooms as does Sheapherds. But becasue it's a reasonably quick trip to other tourists sites (like the Citadel or Museum) I think staying in the pyramids area for at least part of your stay is quite a good option - it's quieter, closer for visitng Giza, Dahshur, Memphis, Saqqara, the Fayoum and Alexandria, and cheaper than Downtown. Try somewhere like Le Meridien Pyramids. I can certainly help you arrange anything you might to do, or accommodation. Hope you have a great stay. over 9 years ago
