Traveling there in June, staying in Luxor. Cannot imagine going all the way there and skipping Cairo, specifically seeing the pyramids for fear of being in any sort of danger. Would you know of a travel agency or outfit that you can recommend to take a husband and wife on an excursion of the pyramids and neighboring areas of historical interest?

Joy, you'll be fine. There's no trouble at Giza. The main tourist areas of Cairo are generally safe. Almost all the trouble is centred on Tahrir Square, and even then usually in one part of this large square closest to the Interior Ministry building. Sadly the Interior Ministry is across the road from the Antiquities museum, so if you intend to go there, check with your tour operator or hotel staff about the situation on that day.
I think your greatest concern will be being swamped by the touts and business operators who are suffering in the tourism downturn.
As always, keep your eye on media reports of new incidents, and avoid any public gatherings or protests.
