I'm heading to Quito, Ecuador in a week and a half and I've heard that there are some good and bad parts of town. I know that theft is a major problem and I'd like to stay somewhere safe but also near some of the action. I tend to veer from the huge tourist sites where it can be noisy at night. I would love any insight on great places to stay that are somewhat central and also safe and clean. Thank you so much for your time!

In downtown Quito, I strongly recommend 'Vila Colonna': boutique hotel, GREAT service, extremely well located. If you prefer go to the modern part of Quiti, I would recommend 'Le Parc', a trendy hotel. over 9 years ago

I have been in Quito for about a week, and was planning in staying in different hostels, but I immediately fell in love with "the colonial house" located in the old historic part of town. The people who run the hostel are so welcoming and helpful, and the breakfast is pretty good as well. Highly recommend for budget travelers looking for a comfortable place to stay. about 7 years ago

If possible avoid Chicago Hostel - the hostel is nice enough but the owner is a scary man! It was the only truly bad experience we had in over 100 locations in Latin America. almost 7 years ago
