The Hideaway Club hotel is good, but its out of town, so if you want to head into Kyrenia (or anywhere else) you will need to use a taxi or hire a car.

In Kyrenia itself, the Rocks is legendary and the Malpas gets great reviews. Both of these have a casino attached.

Gambling in KKTC is very big, as it is banned from mainland Turkey, so everyone decants to KKTC for a spot of roulette etc.

If you venture out for food, I can rate Niazis - very popular and has been around forever. My parents and I used to go in the 1970's. They also have a branch in Nicosia. Further afield, head to Bellapais Abbey, sample the local wine that the monks make and have lunch in one of the restaurants with fab views such as Kybele.

I like KKTC but if you are flying into Larnaca and heading north, then be prepared for some mild rebukes from the Greek Cypriots and ensure you know where the crossing is as people will not help you find it. Its not signposted at all. If you are taking a hire car north you have to declare it to the rental company - and at this point I was asked why I was going north as, and I quote, "they dont have electricity or water and they eat their babies"! about 9 years ago

I lived in Northern Cyprus for 5 years and it's certainly worth a visit; the most popular town is Kyrenia with it's beautiful harbour. about 9 years ago
