I will be sailing around Cuba, visiting several communities. What are good small gifts for the locals?

When I went last Sept Euro's were getting the best rate. USD will always be the worst rate.

Gifts, old clothes or toiletries. over 7 years ago

People seemed to really like a bunch of T-shirts I took. I stuffed my pack full and gave them out as I went, filling back up with souvenirs along the way. over 7 years ago

Agree, USD is the worst because of a 10% surcharge. I took CAD the last time I went and did much better. What ever you take, you will have to exchange it for Convertible Pesos (CUC) although Cubans sometimes call them dollars or chavitos.

Here is a link to the exchange rate for CUC to other currencies:

CUCs are worthless outside of Cuba so make sure you don't have a lot left over when you leave the island. Keep in mind you will need $25 CUC for the airport tax when you leave. over 7 years ago
