I know it doesn't make it impossible but does it make the customs officials take extra care?

Cuban customs will not stamp your passport if you explain that you wish to travel to the US in the future. They have no issue with this, but the US customs may act differently. over 10 years ago

They give you a tourist card visa instead of stamping your passport. Its a two part form that you fill out before going through customs. They keep one portion of the form and you have to turn in the other portion upon exiting the country. At least thats how it is for Canadians... I imagine it would be the same for others as well. over 10 years ago

Both answers above are correct. I'm a Mexican citizen and had no problem because Cuban customs does not stamp your passport, they give you a separate piece of paper that you must keep while in Cuba, then you can throw away when you get back. I suppose it works the same way with US citizens. over 10 years ago

Cuban customs did not even try to stamp my passport when i was entering the country, I had to ask for it explicitely (I just prefer to have it in my passport) Afterwards I did not have any problems because of it neither at US Embassy (had to get a visa back then) nor with US Immigration Services. about 10 years ago

The Cubans you encounter on arrival are fully aware of of our (US) idiotic and out-dated travel policies and politics. You can remind them not to stamp your Docs if you want, but I don,t think you need to. over 9 years ago
