We were going to hire a car to get around Cuba but are starting to have second thoughts. We do however want to see quite a few places that are all over the island. I have read about hiring a driver - i presume this is in his car and not driving yours? Also where and how would we go about doing this?

You will find a lot of locals offering you tours in the most popular areas of Habana such as near the Capitolio or the Malecón in Habana Vieja. Most of them are hard working people looking for extra work but you should exercise caution and common sense. The best bet is if you stay at a casa particular they most likely will know somebody that has a car and offers tours/countryside trips. Negotiate a price and itinerary beforehand, they also usually know some really nice off-the-beaten-path places so keep that in mind when organizing your trip with a driver. Hope it helps! about 8 years ago
