I'll be in Croatia with my family in October and we'll journey by car from Dubrovnik to Split. Could anyone suggest a cosy place to spend one night on the way? We enjoy picturesque places, where we can walk in safety and can taste a good meal and a delicious croatian wine.

I cannot recommend a specific place, but at that time of year I think there will be plently of options. Many people rent out there apartments and rooms for a decent price. There are lots of people offering places in the peak season so your options are huge in regards to location and budget (low and higher). There are people waiting at most places where tourists arrive via car, bus or boat with signs saying Sobra/rooms/apartments. Just check them out before agreeing to stay and negotiate on price. Stays shorter than 3 nights are usually subject to 30% surcharge.

I used it in September 2010 to book accomodation in advance. Make sure you get the address so you can google map it and see exactly where it is.

Since you are so close by, if you have a chance, hop over to the Island of Hvar. Great food, great sites, great activities. The Amfora or Adriana (can't remember which) is great for families and has a kids club. over 10 years ago
