Definitely Tamarindo. It's the one of the driest parts of the country (a definite plus in the heart of rainy season) and there are tons of surf camps that can bring you to different breaks such as Avellanas, Grande and Witch's Rock. You also might run into Robert August! about 9 years ago

If you are looking for more of a variety of waves, I would suggest Jaco, Hermosa area. Jaco has a large area of waves from South to North with nice long rides, perfect for longboarders in certain conditions. Then you have Hermosa, for experts if you are looking for a challenge, not more than 5 minutes away. Other spots in the area are awesome too, I would recommend going with Del Mar Surf Camp for a surf trip, they can take you to all the local spots that are working with the swell in the area. They're all Costa Rican local surfers too, so you dont have to worry about anything at some spots when you're with them! about 9 years ago
