Planning to go in February. Looking for safe beaches and wildlife education for kids. Hoping for advise if this is a good trip to plan for children (6-12).

Manuel Antonio national park is a great start for wildlife and safe beaches! Arena doesn't have as much wildlife but is gorgeous and is a good stop on your way to the cloud forest! over 4 years ago

Pacific coast is safer than Caribbean, but we've never faced any problem on each coast. Boths coasts offer fantastic places for birdwatching as well as lots of small animals, and nice views.
Please take note never to leave luggage or valuables in your car, never. Also take care of your belongins, never loose sight of your wallet, mobile or camera, not even while going to the sea (don't leave those at the beach unattended).
Pacific side: Manuel Antonio, Flamingo, Conchal, Hermosa Guanacaste, and tons of others ( nicest in Guanacaste)
Caribbean side: Puerto Viejo, Punta Uva, Tortuguero National Park (best for nature on this side)
Hope this helps. over 4 years ago

Thank you for your suggestions. I think I may look at the Manuel Antonio area that both of you have recommended. I appreciate the safety tips as well! over 4 years ago

Good recommendations already, and good choice if you go to Manuel Antonio. Please know that the Manuel Antonio National Park is closed on Mondays. Also, once on the beach in the park, never leave your belongings unattended mostly if it is food; there is a family of racoons and some white-faced monkeys that patrol the beach/forest line that would steal anything from you even if it is not food. Those animals are kind of worry-free of humans. The best way to get rid of them is by making noises clapping one rock against another or two pieces of wood will work as well. Good luck!
