What's there to do in Guangzhou? Thinking about training it there for the airport, but wondering if there is any must-dos...

Hmm, the food is good, other than that not much of interest. Training from Hong Kong? over 11 years ago

The west side of the city is filled with narrow streets with old buildings and tiny street vendors. Shamian Island on the Zhujiang river is home to old colonial buildings. The streets are lined with banyan trees and its pace is much slower then rest of the city. Just north of Shamian is where Guangzhou starts to get interesting. Qingping market occupies a number of city blocks and is famous for vendors selling anything from live scorpions to dried cockroaches. The government has cracked down on the market in the last decade because it used to be renowned for selling bears in cages and other endangered species’ parts. But don’t be put down, there is still plenty to check out. www.tipi.com.au over 10 years ago

The food is great and cheap to boot (depending on where you are from) try Macau Street Restaurant. There's a short river cruise that's pretty good on a night, you see some nice views of the city.
There's also the Chime Long zoo and circus - though some aspects of the zoo smacked of cruelty and almost had me in tears. Whether it was cruelty or misunderstanding on my part I'm unsure... In fact, maybe give it a miss... over 9 years ago
