Recommendations for restaurants or hotels in Xi'an? I'm looking for things that are neither super thrifty nor fancy tourist traps...

Shuyuan Hostel or Jano's Backpackers are great places to stay, and they're relatively cheap. They provide tours for the Terra Cotta Warriors for a decent price. (I recommend Shuyuan's tour, because Lady JiaJia is the best ever.) Both hostels have nice pubs downstairs, though Shuyuan's is a bit loud. Jano's Belgian Bar is a great place to go and sit and sip some Belgian beer.
As for restaurants, I suggest visiting the Muslim Quarter and having the mutton soup. If you're wanting western food, there's every western place you can think of: Pizza Hut, Starbucks, Burger King, Baskin Robbins, and the Subway restaurants in China are so much better than in America. over 9 years agoAnswered by Jay Dizzle viaWorldNomads.com

Try the Mecure hotel. it has a lovely pool and a convenient downtown location on Renmin Square http://search.costeffectivetravel.com/Hotel/Mercure_on_Renmin_Square_Xian.htm
The food served there is also top notch. over 8 years agoAnswered by Gary viaTravellr.com
