I suggest around 3 days. We had to stay 6 because of the sold out train tickets... Way too long :)
Terra cota Army is not as wooow as you think, but you cant miss it.
The pagoda is oke... It's not china most beautiful city but the people are very friendly and helpfull!
Han tang inn is one of the best hostels in all china ! The roof terrace is a great spot to relax after exploring the city.( near the hostel is a sales point of traintickets= less queue than the station)
Do not miss the yungyang caves near datong = beautifull !!
Hope it's helpfull :) over 6 years ago
As a native Xi'anese, I would say a 2-day-trip is only enough for few popular spots, while you totally have no idea about the importance of this capital of the greatest kingdom for more than 3000 years after your trip.
Usually for a Chinese tourist who have a basic knowledge of the structure of Chinese history, the trip takes 5 days - 10 days. Read some Wikipedia pages about Chinese history, you'll get to know what's the important spots of Xi'an. Here are some spots that is not so famous, but actually quite interesting to me: Hanyang Ling museum, Xingqing Palace, Qinglong temple, Mount Hua (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Hua), Tang Paradise(a theme park), Mount Cuihua, small wild goose pagoda and Xi'an museum... about 6 years agoAnswered by daniel via WorldNomads.com
