I booked airfare with China Southern from Australia to Kazakhstan with stop-overs in Guangzhou & Urumqi.
On the way there I have a 14 hours (evening/night time) stop-over in Guangzhou and on the way back I have a 10 hour (night time) stop-over in Urumqi.
I'm quite happy to stay at the airport and sleep on the floor or on seats, as China Southern doesn't proved complementary accommodation. However, it has been very difficult to find any information or get a straight answer from China Southern about the OPENING HOURS of both Guangzhou-New Baiyun International Airport & Urumqi Diwobao International Airport (Terminal Building T3).
I want to find out if I can stay there during the night (sleep on the floor/seats) wait for my next flight in the morning, that I won't be kicked out?
And if I am required to obtain VISA beforehand (in Australia)? I don't plan to leave Airport (if I can that is), so will still need VISA for one day (Transit or otherwise) or because I will be staying in the airport (provided I can) I won't need any type of VISA. I am an Australian citizen.
Any info, help will be much appreciated!
Both airport are open 24 hours since many flight arrive and depart u would be in transit so they cannot not kick u out of the airport if possible get visa on consulate if not I even believe u may able to get a transit visa on yr arrival with yr Australian passport over 8 years ago
I am also an Australian citizen. I can confirm that you do not need a visa if you are in transit for no more than 24 hours and are staying at the airport. Provided that you have a booked seat on a connecting flight. You can find this information on the China-embassy.org website.

Do you know if there are any day rooms or places you can book to sleep at Urumqi airport? almost 6 years agoAnswered by KimG via WorldNomads.com
