Rough budget for two months' travel?
I'm thinking of spending two months traveling around parts of Sth America early next year (Chile, Argentina, Peru, Brazil). What would be a rough estimate for a budget per day? USD 10 a day? USD 40? USD 100???

Really depends on how you are spending your $$s
Haven't been to Peru, so I am not much use there.
In terms of buying power Argentina is the cheapest, Brazil is the next and Chile is the most expensive.
Since I was there last year we have had the western world economy crash which has made all of the exchange rates a lot worse.
Argentina was easily the cheapest. You could find all you can eat buffets with a great selection of food for 7 pesos (US$2)! Dorm rooms in hostels for 35 pesos (US$10) - Palermo House hostel in Buenos Aires and the buffet down the road.
So in Argentina you can do a lot with US$30 per day.
Brazil is probably 1.5 or 2 times as expensive, at least in the big cities.
Chile is something similar to Brazil. almost 12 years ago -
It really depends on you. As for what is possible I can tell you I would have always averaged less then $10US a day in all those countries. Its less in Peru, think I spent about $7 a day.
I spent a few months in each one, so travel costs come way down. If you are in a rush, you spend more. Buses $$$ almost 12 years agoAnswered bywhoissteveanyway via
