I'm currently in Guatemala and planning heading south down to Panama. Having stayed in hostels I've heard various stories about the safety of El Salvador and Honduras. I'm thinking maybe of finding a nice touristy port town in El Salvador and getting on a boat to Nicaragua. Does anyone know if one Honduras really is as bad as they say. (Honduras does have the highest murder rate in the world... El Salvador is 2nd on that list.)
Honduras is not quite as bad as you've heard, but it is somewhere that you really need to be on your guard and take extra precautions.
Savvy travelers only, I'd say.
