I am taking a three day trip to begin checking out possible relocation areas from the US to Central America. I will visit several countries over the next six months. I will be traveling alone on some of these short trips. Any advise?

I would read up on safety for the entire area as well as by country. Lots of sources, but start with safety.worldnomads.com. I San Salvador and Managua can be dodgy for any traveler, let alone solo female, so avoid them if you can, or at least, connect with the hotel staff of where you are staying before you arrive to get a read on taxis or if they can collect yo from the bus staion etc. always get pricing before you get in the cab pretty anywhere in central America. Lots of scams with cab drivers so try o ask your hotel or retaurant to call you one over just lagging on in the street.

Apart from bigger hectic cities, I find a lot of the area safe and the people warm and welcoming, with the usual precautions of being a foreigner and a female. if you go to Granada in Nicaragua, consider staying at the casa Silas. Rob is fabulously warm, and as en expat Canadian, he knows A LOT about moving into the area and what is entailed. over 7 years ago

No go on guatemala for relo. I was a peace corps vol there. Great country, but trust me, not the place to retire for a 60 yr old single female imho.
Also should avoid much of honduras unfortunately.

    I second granada, nicaragua.

Also love most of costa rica.

And panama is getting to be expensive so p.city wouldnt b my first choice. over 7 years ago
