Where do you mean Tofino or the island. Tofino is lovely & there is a great hostel there. Unfortunately we would have liked to spend longer there however the company I was with' van broke down in the east of the island so we lost atleast half a day.
Regarding the island I must be losing the plot because I've just done a search on it & presuming it's the same place which it sounds like it, its actually on the mainland but accessible by about an hour and 20 minutes boat trip from Tofino. It's called Tofino Hiot Springs or Hot Springs Cove and is 30km north of Tofino.
It says it has both camping & fixed roof accommodation. The boat trips also engage in some whale watching during the trip.
Port Hardy, in the north of the island may be a good place to base yourself, I've only overnighted there. You could do the inside passage day trip to Prince Rupert, but you'll have to spend time flying back the next day so it's not really a day trip.

Oh a bit of advice about the springs.. The pools are natural and quite small so to get the most out of your experience its best visiting outside peak time or outside peak season. Otherwise the pools can get crowded and you won't have the back to nature feeling you want. It's far nicer if its only you and your mates that you have to share with in the main.
