I'm considering staying in Montreal for a few weeks sometime between August and November and would like to stay in a cheapish place in an area that reflects the culture well

There are so many great areas in Montreal to stay I don't know if I could really pick one. My top 3 would be, the latin quarter section of downtown. It is not the nicest of areas but it is next to the village and one of most central metro stations in the city also hotels in this area are pretty reasonable. I can also suggest staying in Playeau Mt-Royal which is a very hip and fun area. If you want an English neighborhood then my final recommendation is NDG. almost 12 years ago

There are lots of people that rent rooms for short-term visits. Check out craigslist, or if you speak french, voir.ca.

The best neighbourhoods for culture are the Plateau and Latin Quarter. That's where all the nightlife, restuarants and shows are. over 11 years ago
