Thinking about Vancouver, Banff maybe Quebec City end of Sept. any ideas about getting around, hotels, etc
Depends on how much time you have.
Vancouver and Banff are a 12 hour drive apart, and it will take several days to drive to Quebec City. You can fly between them, of course. But I'd recommend you pick just one part of the country - eg Maritimes, major central cities (Quebec City, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto), the mountains or the coast.
Regardless, September is a great time to visit, although it will start to be chilly in the mountains at night. The end of Sept is lovely in Quebec because the leaves are turning bright red, orange and yellow.
Vancouver is my favourite city in Canada - the Sylvia Hotel is the iconic place to stay here, with a lovely view of English Bay. Lots of choices though. Best and iconic hotel in Banff is the Banff Springs Hotel and in Quebec is Chateau Frontenac.
You don't need a car to tour around Vancouver (walking, Sky Train, and pedestrian ferries are fine), but you do for anything other than right "downtown" Banff and the old city in Quebec.
