Depends what you are looking for..... I live in Vancouver - but I have never been to Montreal.
Many people love the cultural aspect of Montreal. I know it gets cold in winter though. I do not know much more about the city
Vancouver is wonderful. Warm summers, mild winter. No snow. Nice ocean. Fresh air. Forests. Mountains. Trees. Alternate mindsets. Organic foods etc.... I could not imagine living anywhere else in Canada.
Only problem with Vancouver is that it is the MOST EXPENSIVE city in North America. Food and rent is double the cost of Ontario and other provinces. There is also a lot of poverty and petty crime in some parts of the city. about 5 years ago
Montreal has a great European flare, but cold and snowy in winter and hit and humid in summer. Vancouver has a temperate climate like south of England with better summers. I live in Richmond just next to Vancouver and for the weather, would not live anywhere else in Canada except maybe Victoria. Vancouver is beautiful, with the sea and local mountains half hour away to ski. yet in winter you could play golf on the same day. People here are very outdoorsy, and into a lot of excercising in general. almost 5 years ago
I have visited both. Vancouver has a nice climate and mixes nature into a very small city. Montreal has worse weather but feels like a European city. There is so much to do. I live in Los Angeles and find both of them affordable. almost 5 years ago
I've lived in both, and I prefer Vancouver!! But it depends what you love and what you can put up with. In Montreal, I miss the French culture and language, the architecture, the markets, and the sophisticated vibe. I wish Vancouver wasn't so expensive and that we could do more to help the large homeless population (they're generally friendly though).
