Kashima, often overlooked as Kaizen (3 blocks away) get a lot of popular buzz. Kashima has a great, authentic selection of Traditional Japanese foods and a good assortment of Sushi & Rolls.Give it a try and let me know what you think! @Josepf on Twitter.

Sakura on Rue de la Montagne if you want traditional, authentic Japanese. Kaizen for creative modern Japanese, and Miso, 4000 Sainte-Catherine West, for modern fusion Japanese. Also excellent and reasonably priced is the Korean restaurant Atti on University St., which uses only fresh ingredients in a relaxing, modern-zen decor. over 6 years ago

There's this tiny traditional street food restaurant called Kazu on Ste-Catherine West; very fresh, varied, but only one or two dishes of sushi. However, watch out for opening days and queues! It's VERY popular.
