Hi All

I have a 2 year visa for Canada so I am going to get myself a Canadian Bank Account. I will also be travelling around the usa for a couple months. Which Canadian bank is best to go with for low/Nil withdrawal / transactions fees while travelling the USA?

Thanks for your help.

We went with HSBC when we had the 2 year working visa for Canada. In Mexico transactions were only $3, which was cheap. I think they would be similar for the USA.

Also, bank accounts in Canada can be expensive ($15-20 a month in fees) - not sure if it is still available but we got the HSBC 'passport' account, which was free for the first 6 months. about 6 years ago

The answer may depend on where you plan to travel in the US. If you plan to be in the Northeast between Washington, DC and Maine, or down on Florida, then you should look into TD Bank as they have branches in these areas. If you plan to be in the Southeast US, including Florida, then check out RBC. If you plan to be in the Chicago area, then Bank of Montreal is your best bet.

Check out their websites as the fees should be disclosed there.

Enjoy your stay in the USA. about 6 years ago
