    Phil from the safety hub here..... as I've said before, Rio can be a bit of a challenge as far as petty crime (and even more violent crime), but not impossible. Just the sort of place where you have to take precautions. Contrary to what Andre says, in most European destinations you could wear your watch and jewellery on the street - that's not advisable in Rio. I'm not going to compare Rio to Europe or get into an argument about which place is a greater crime risk, and of course every city has its bad parts and anything can happen to anyone anywhere. Rio's not UNSAFE, but you need to be on guard.

    Rio is an amazing place, so much fun and you can go and have a perfectly great, safe time.... if you take some basic precautions.
