I was thinking of traveling to brazil for a few months but I wanted to get a job and rent an apartment and stuff. I have a ton of retail experience and a Bsc from Ottawa u but I speak minimal Portuguese. Could I find a job and would I have to improve my Portuguese before I went?

My advise is that you must improve your Portuguese if you want to get a job in retail. Why don't you try getting a job in a hotel or museum? You have the bonus of a fluent English and French, still you need to catch up with your Portuguese. over 6 years ago

    Hi Ryan,

I'm from São Paulo. The easiest way to you to get a work visa and move to Brazil is to be a ESL teacher. I think you can get a 6 months preparatory class in Ottawa (at least is this way in USA) and a certification. You won't find a job over the Internet, except if you decide to be a ESL teacher - (Brazil needs lots of English teacher because the Word Cup and Olympics). In the mean time, take some Portuguese classes and enroll for the Ottawa Portuguese Meetup group - http://www.meetup.com/lusophilesinottawa/ (I'm a Portuguese meet organizer myself, but in San Francisco). That more Portuguese you will know the easy will be for you to get a job in Brazil.
