I just happen to have a work colleague who's from Sao Paulo, here's what Felipe says:
    - Sao Paulo usually gets less busy during carnaval as lots of people leave the city towards the beaches. Areas like the anhenbi, where there is carnaval parades will be very crowded. -
Avinida Paulista in the business district is the main parade route.... but the whole town gets so noisy that many people leave and go somewhere quieter for a few days.

Hi, I live in Sao Paulo and in the carnival lots of people just travel to other cities, especially to litoral ones. It is a good time to visit the city, less traffic, less noise. over 6 years ago

Yes, Sao Paulo is pretty safe, you jast have to take general care as any other place in the world. If you don't go to the Sambodromo, everywhere else will be calm, principally parks, restaurants and museums. People from Sao Paulo often leave the city during Carnival what makes a good oportunity for sightseeing. over 6 years ago
