I'm traveling to Baku for a week. What kind of cell phone SIM card should I purchase and where can I get it?

    You can buy a SIM card from one of the many mobile phone shops in the city. The cost depends on how fancy the number is but if you don't care what number the give you, a SIM card costs about 5AZN (approx 5 Euros). You need to take your passport with you when you buy one and some shops won't sell you one without a residence permit but generally, they're easy to get. You top up by buy a scratch card at the same shop or at one of the many kiosks in town. Top ups are from 1AZN up. Calls are quite cheap within Azerbaijan but can be expensive to call overseas. The biggest provider is Azercell - there's also Bakcell and NAR. Not much difference in prices. over 7 years ago
