
I'm planning to have 8 days in Austria. Which is Better, to rent a private car or to use the public transport ? What about fuel price?

It depends where you plan to go. If you stay mainly in the cities and just travel from spot to spot I would recommend publich transport. If you plan to visit the wonderful sceneries, lakes and mountains I would say, you rent a car. - fuel price at the moment is about 1,3 Euro /liter over 9 years ago

I must urge you to be careful if you are planning on driving in any European country. There are many hidden laws, fees and requirements depending on what you are doing. When driving in Austria on their autobahn or freeway ensure that you buy a vignette to put on your windshield or it could really cost you. The Austrians normally want their fines paid on the spot. over 9 years ago

I would highly consider public transportation. I studied abroad there two years ago, and found that I got around just fine. Great train system, great city rail systems in Vienna and Linz for sure, awesome bus system in Salzburg, and easy bus systems to and around nearly all of the smaller towns. about 9 years ago
