A friend and I are staying in Vienna April 1-3 and we're hoping for a cheap hostel to stay in and some advice on can't miss experiences- touristy stuff to see, places to eat, parts of the city to explore, trinkets to buy! We're both Austria novices so any advice would be appreciated))

I stayed in a hotel not a hostel so I've no idea sorry but if you do a search for hostel sites such as hostelworld.com the hostels are rated by customers so it will give you an idea which is best.

The hop on hop off bus will give you a good orientation of the city & bring you to all the prime areas both in the centre & suburbs, the latter such as Schonbrunn Palace.

Trinkets. Well if you can find any market up & running it would be a good source. Austrian dolls, clothes & their cakes are great if you can manage to bring them home. Chocolates such as Mozartkugeln are very de reg and there's some sort of Mozart drink you can buy in attractive bottles in white, milk and dark chocolate flavour. almost 9 years ago
